From July 30 to August 1, 2025, a team of students from the School of Law at Nanchang University conducted a special field study in Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province. The study aimed to explore how legal frameworks can contribute to the protection of intangible cultural heritage while providing practical legal services to local communities.

The students focused on three representative forms of intangible cultural heritage: Wuyuan green tea production techniques, Huizhou’s three traditional carving arts, locally known as the Wuyuan Three Carvings, and She inkstone production techniques. They visited the Wuyuan County Justice Bureau, held discussions with prosecutors and judges, and tried an innovative local legal education tool. By scanning a QR code and answering four questions correctly, participants could receive a bottle of water.

In Ziyang Community, the students delivered lectures on fraud prevention and consumer rights to more than 30 elderly residents. They also interviewed residents about their views on the protection of intangible cultural heritage. One resident said, "Many tourists come to Wuyuan every year to experience its intangible cultural heritage, and the county continues to develop and improve."

The team visited the Wuyuan Museum, an intangible cultural heritage experience center, and an ancient town. They picked tea leaves, watched carving demonstrations, and collected firsthand data on patent protection, market irregularities, and the preservation and transmission of traditional craftsmanship.

Tradition and the rule of law can advance side by side. Through this fieldwork, the students hope to build a bridge between legal expertise and the protection of cultural heritage.
